How to Get What You Want

NO is the answer you want to hear

Susie Tomenchok Episode 35

'No' is a word many of us are so afraid to hear in a negotiation. However, it is essential to understand and be aware of our relationship with it, because as much as we believe 'no' is the easiest word for someone to say, it is not. And because of this, we let the thought of a negative answer stop us from moving forward. Today I’m sharing how to approach it differently!

Join me in this episode to look at ‘no’ in a positive way, a way to make progress, put yourself out there, and let go of the fear of hearing it. Always think of the possibility of a yes before a negotiation, but if the answer is no, don't give up, be curious as to why they said no, and ask for a different thing so that they definitely know you want more.

A look at what I talked about:
[00:01:48] There’s so much to the word ‘no’
[00:03:12] Studies show that saying no is not easy.
[00:05:09] We avoid hearing a negative answer because we’re afraid.
[00:08:34] When we assume that we aren’t worthy we don't move forward.
[00:10:40] When you stay silent they assume you’re happy.
[00:11:57] ‘No’ can become a ‘Yes’ in the future.
[00:13:05] Are you saying ‘no’ enough?
[00:13:57] What is your relationship with ‘no’?
